So you’ve decided to adopt a puppy, good for you! It will bring so much fun and joy to your life, and all your friends will want to come over and play with it. But a puppy is new to this world, and it doesn’t know what’s right and what’s wrong. It’s completely up to you how to potty train a puppy, and this includes teaching it where it should and shouldn’t go potty.

HOW TO POTTY TRAIN A PUPPY – 5 HELPFUL TIPS!
1. Choose a general area outside where you would like your puppy to go.Take your puppy to the designated spot every hour and slowly walk around.
2. Choose a cue word, and use it every time you take your puppy out to potty. It can be anything you’d like, usually something simple like “go potty” works best. After a while, your puppy will associate the cue word with him/her doing his/her business, and will know what to do when he/she hears it.
3. If your puppy goes potty, praise him/her and let him/her know that he did a great thing! Be sure to use your cue word as you praise him/her as well.
5. Continue to take him/her out every hour, even if he/she just recently went. The point of this is to not only teach him/her to go outside, but to also prevent any mistakes from happening inside.
Following the above steps will have your puppy trained in no time! Just be sure to always use the same cue word. Eventually you’ll be able to take him out, say the cue word, and (if he/she has to) he/she will go right ahead and do his/her business.

1. Puppies can’t physically hold it in as long as older dogs can, so it’s important to let him/her out frequently. This means you’ll need to set your alarm clock and let him/her out a few times throughout the night until he/she is a little older.
2. Many puppies need to potty soon after eating, so be sure to take them out after each mealtime.
3. Do not feed your new puppy close to bedtime, and take his/her water away before bedtime as well. This will help prevent accidents throughout the night. Just be sure to put the water back out first thing in the morning.
4. Do not just open your door and let them out every couple of hours. This doesn’t teach them that going inside is bad and outside is good.
Most of all, just remember that your puppy is new to this world. Mistakes will happen, and they will happen at inconvenient times and in inconvenient places. Simply stay calm, correct your puppy, and show it the right thing to do.
