Dogs on Golf Courses

Your favorite golf course may look like the perfect place to spend time with your dog. Wouldn’t walking across the golf course in your comfortable golf shoes with your dog be the perfect exercise they need? And at the same time, you get to have fun playing one of the most interesting sports in the world. But can you bring your dogs on golf courses in the first place? As you might assume, there is no universal answer — it all depends on the specific course in question. There are plenty of courses that simply don’t want to deal with the liability for someone’s pet. Many of these courses are huge — a dog that’s prone to wandering away might as well get lost.

Dogs on Golf Courses

There are plenty of golf courses that actually welcome dogs and other pets. Most of them simply ask that you keep your pet on a leash and that you pick up after them.

As you might expect, even if your golf course allows the presence of dog companions — there are still some protocols, conventions, and rules. While these differ from course to course, there are some that are pretty much universal regardless of where you’re playing. Mainly — you need to have your doggo under complete control at all times. That means that bringing a loosely trained dog to the golf course is simply not an option. If you don’t have your dog on a leash, or it doesn’t obey your vocal commands — that could disrupt the game for other players.

Also, much like golf carts — when you bring your dogs on golf courses. you will probably have to keep them off the greens. The same goes for bunkers — dogs are rarely allowed into bunkers. And in the case that they do make their way inside, remove their paw prints before you leave. So you should carry a golf bag that is suitable for this tee time

Some golf courses demand further things before they let you bring your pet — for instance, a health certificate procured by a valid veterinarian, along with proof of their proper vaccination. Some will also require your dog to be on a leash at all times, from your arrival on the course to your final departure. Depending on the breed in question, some dogs will also require a muzzle. And naturally, the owner is liable for any potential damage that their dog makes on the course.

However, if you fulfill all of these demands that are prescribed by dog-friendly golf courses, there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t bring your pet while you play your favorite game! We hope this guide was useful to you. Are you going to bring your dog to a course near you? Let us know!
