The Hard Truth About Rawhide Treats

List of dangerous chemicals found in rawhide treats

We just can’t seem to get why dogs go crazy over Rawhide! They smell awful, and when you really look into what goes into making them, they are just all chemicals, preservatives, and GLUE!

And, not to be a total bummer but that isn’t even the worst of it! Check out this list of some chemicals that have been found in rawhide products!

MOST COMMON RAWHIDE RISKS

  • CONTAMINATION: AS WITH PET TOYS, THESE CHEWS CAN CONTAIN TRACE AMOUNTS OF TOXIC CHEMICALS.
  • DIGESTIVE IRRITATION: SOME DOGS ARE SIMPLY SENSITIVE OR ALLERGIC TO RAWHIDE OR OTHER SUBSTANCES USED IN THEIR MANUFACTURE.
  • CHOKING OR BLOCKAGES THAT COULD REQUIRE SURGERY OR EVEN CAUSE DEATH.

Now, we aren’t telling you what to do, but if you’re a dog parent whose fur-baby loves some quality chew time with a piece of Rawhide, definitely keep an eye on your pup when they’re chowing down on this stuff. If you ever suspect that a rawhide has caused a blockage in your dog, always consult a medical professional, and I mean like fast! Especially, if any of the following symptoms appear:

SIGNS OF BACTERIAL CONTAMINATION, GASTRIC IRRITATION, OR A BLOCKAGE

If that’s the case, then you should keep doing what you know works best for you and your buddy. Just always remember to research products before you give them to your pets and seek alternatives, cause you’re their protector!
