Feline Canopy of Care | Pet Appreciation Week Shelter Spotlight

Pet Appreciation Week 2022 is June 5th through June 11th, and in our humble opinion, it is one of the single greatest weeks of the year! We’ll be honest, we feel like every week is Pet Appreciation Week here at Cuddle Clones. There isn’t a day that goes by that we don’t live to celebrate pets and the joy, love, and companionship they bring into our lives. However, when this wonderful time of year rolls around, we want to celebrate it for the special occasion it is!

That’s why in honor of Pet Appreciation Week, we are bringing you not one, not two, but THREE Shelter Spotlights. What makes these spotlights so special is these are the most highly nominated shelters from our list.

A portion of each and every purchase goes to benefit animal shelters, pet rescues, and humane societies all around the country, and every single organization we support is nominated by our customers. Do you know a pet welfare organization in need of support? Visit the Donations Page on our website and fill out our shelter nomination form.

Introducing Feline Canopy of Care

Based in St. Augustine, Florida, Feline Canopy of Care is a nonprofit organization staffed entirely that dedicates itself to ending the suffering of abandoned cats and kittens. As a no-kill organization, FCOC strives to end animal homelessness and rehome stray cats and kittens into their forever homes.

We received this shelter’s nomination and were struck by the powerful simplicity of their plea:

“We have a terrible problem with feral cats here in North Florida. This is kitten season, and the rescue is swamped with moms and kittens. Help with feeding them would be much appreciated.”

We have mentioned kitten season in many of our previous blogs. While this time of year sounds absolutely adorable, the reality for shelters, rescues, and humane societies is anything but.

Typically lasting from April all the way through October, kitten season sees the population of shelters around the country swell to unsustainable levels. These massive populations of cats and kittens massively deplete already scarce resources, and kittens require a large amount of extra time, energy, and care.

This is why we decided to spotlight Feline Canopy of Care! In order to help control feral cat populations, FCOC dedicates itself to spaying and neutering feral cats. This way, if reintroduced into the wild, these cats cannot continue the kitten season cycle.

In addition, Feline Canopy of Care partners with The Witty Whisker Cat Cafe! This comfortable cafe space is home to a separate, safely enclosed section that houses cats and kittens available for adoption. Customers can watch the adorable show from a distance, or, for a small fee, enter the cat room and mingle with the lovely residents. All of the cats who currently call The Witty Whisker home come from Feline Canopy of Care. This partnership is a match made in heaven!

How to Support Feline Canopy of Care

The good news is that if you purchased any of our custom gifts for pet lovers last month, you already have! Your purchase means we were able to support Feline Canopy of Care’s mission. However, for those of you who want to do more (and we love that about you), there are a few great ways to support the cause:

  • Make a Monetary Donation: On the ground organizations like FCOC survive off of donations made by amazing people like you! Your contributions enable FCOC to spay/neuter and care for abandoned, stray and abused cats and kittens. Additionally, your tax-deductible donation helps FCOC buy medical supplies, pay for veterinary care, food, litter, and so much more!
  • Become a Feline Foster Parent: By opening your home to a homeless cat, you are ensuring they remain safe, supported, and most importantly, loved, while they wait to find their forever home. This selfless act of generosity and service goes a long way towards supporting Feline Canopy of Care’s mission, and ensures more cats can benefit from their care.
  • Adopt a Cat: The absolutely, number one, best way to support FCOC is to adopt! By bringing a new furry member of the family into your home, you are directly supporting FCOC by creating space for new cats and kittens to enter their system and receive support.

Thank you again to everyone who nominated this wonderful organization. Our Shelter Spotlights for the month aren’t over yet, so be sure to check out all three, including  Kitty Up Cat Rescue and  Allegany County Animal Shelter!
