If you’re eating something and your dog wants a bite it can be tempting to give in. Our dogs aren’t aware that they cannot eat certain foods though, so their safety is in our hands. We love sharing food with our pups, but not everything we eat is safe for them to eat! Before feeding your dog anything other than their usual dog food, always make sure that it is safe and free of ingredients that can be harmful. Here’s a list of 13 safe foods that you can share with your dog.
If your dog is not lactose intolerant, cheese is a good treat food. Good cheese types for dogs are cottage cheese, mozzarella, and cheddar. Even if your dog is not lactose intolerant, still make sure to give this treat in small quantities.
If your dog likes carrots, they are a wonderful option to give for snacks or treats. Be sure that they are always plain when feeding them to your dog. They’re a healthy, low-calorie treat that also has the benefit of having vitamin A, fiber, and beta carotene.
This is a wonderful protein full of omega-3 fatty acids. The benefits of eating salmon include skin, coat, and even immune system support. There are a lot of dog food choices that use this fish as the main source of protein in their blend.
If you’re looking for the perfect low-calorie training treat, look no further. Blueberries are full of antioxidants and fiber. Delicious and nutritious, they can also be a delightful snacking treat or a dog food topper.
You already know coconut oil is good for you, but you may not want to just eat it by the spoonful. Your dog, however, would love to do that! There are many benefits to letting your dog have a spoonful of coconut oil, including digestion, oral health, skin, and even their coat.
If your pup is having a bellyache, pumpkin is very soothing for them. Make sure you’re always choosing plain pumpkin with pumpkin being the only ingredient on the can. Cooked fresh pumpkin is a tasty treat too and makes a wonderful dog food topper! Just make sure not to add any seasoning.
Plain cooked meats are incredibly beneficial to your dog. You want to make sure that meat you’re feeding your dog is not processed like sausages or bacon. Also make sure that there is no seasoning, as extra sugar and salts are not good for your dog and some seasonings may even have garlic or onion in them which are toxic!
This is another treat with lots of Vitamins and fiber. Specifically Vitamin A and C! Be careful that you are only giving your pet the flesh of the apple and not the apple seeds, as these are toxic.
If your dog has a grain intolerance or sensitivity, this may not be a good option. Plain cooked oatmeal is a super healthy snack that is wonderful for digestion and full of vitamins.
Your dog will love this high protein treat! You can cook them scrambled, sunny side up, or hard boiled. And believe it or not, your pup can eat the shells too! They are full of calcium and your dog may even enjoy the crunch! Chopped up egg shells also make a wonderful dog food topper.
A yummy snack packed full of fiber, beta carotene, and vitamins B-6 and C. You can cook them plain or dehydrate them to make sweet potato chews for your pup. There are many dog food options that contain sweet potatoes as well.
Some dogs are lactose intolerance, but for ones who can eat it, this is a yummy treat. Calcium, protein, and digestive cultures are a few of the good things in yogurt that will benefit your dog. Make sure it’s plain yogurt and does not have any sweeteners or flavors in it.
